The Pittsburgh Section is part of the national American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) founded in 1939. The AIHA is an international organization made up of more than 10,000 members from every industry worldwide who are dedicated to health and safety in the workplace, community, and environment.

Three social media buttons have been added to the top of each page (beside the search box) for Facebook, LinkedIn, and the RSS Feed button so you can set up a live bookmark on your web browser. Members of these groups are welcome to provide feedback to us at AIHA Pittsburgh Section (by posting discussion threads) on what interests you or how we can better address your needs or concerns. Thank you to the members who participated in our online ballot to approve the revised Local Section By-Laws. All but one were in favor of the revision. Once the National AIHA approves the By-Laws, they will be updated on the website.

As required by our by-laws, this special notice is provided to all Pittsburgh Local Section AIHA members to allow our membership the opportunity to vote on by-law changes recommended by the National AIHA in keeping with recognized local section standards. Most of the changes are minor, changing a few words here and there to update and clarify the way our local section will be governed going forward. The proposed changes have been reviewed and approved by our Local Section executive committee as well as the National AIHA committee dealing with local sections.
Active members are asked to respond with their vote by August 7 and should refer to the email sent today (July 31) for the revised by-laws, and vote using the online ballot link in the email to either approve or disapprove of the amended by-laws. Acceptance of the by-law changes by a majority vote of Local Section members will take effect immediately upon final approval by the Natl. AIHA Secretary/Board of Directors. Remember, your participation in Local Section activities is critical for the future success of our Association. There have been several modifications to the website. The top menu/navigation has changed and the homepage is now a "blog" type page. Also, several news feeds have been added to the right (hopefully you find these useful!), I will add the Natl. AIHA feed when available. The Meeting page includes a "Suggestion Form" for members to provide any feedback, suggestions, comments, etc. Input is always welcome! A Corporate Sponsor Application has been created and added to that page. The Job Postings page has the Natl. AIHA's Career Advantage feed added so you can check job opportunities there, also some helpful website links. The Executive Committee held their annual Summer Business Meeting on July 16, 2014 at Aracri's Greentree Inn. The Pittsburgh AIHA is happy to announce the recipient of our $1000 Local Section Scholarship, which was awarded through the AIHF. Please join us in congratulating Arthur Thurdekoos who is a West Virginia University student in the Industrial Hygiene Masters Program. Click here for a list of all current AIHF scholarship recipients.
The Executive Committee has decided to offer this local section scholarship again for 2015. Next year's scholarship will be for a graduate student of the West Virginia University IH Program. We are happy to have involvement from these students in our local section, and look forward to awarding the deserving candidate for the Fall 2015 semester. Applications will be due at the end of February 2015. The results are as follows:
